Raising Awareness, Sharing Knowledge
Sometimes, a conversation begins with a simple admission: “I thought I was the only one.”
World Menopause Day offers an opportunity for that conversation—to ask questions, share experiences and make a subject that can feel deeply personal easier to discuss.
Observed every year on 18 October, the day raises awareness of menopause and the importance of reliable information and support. According to the International Menopause Society (IMS), the organisation founded World Menopause Day in 2009 to improve women’s experiences worldwide. The society itself dates back to 1978.
IMS continues to lead the annual campaign by selecting a theme, publishing a research-based white paper, and producing educational resources for healthcare professionals and the wider community. These efforts highlight different aspects of menopause and encourage better understanding and care.
The purpose reaches beyond a date on the calendar. Awareness can begin in an ordinary moment: a conversation with a friend, a question during a healthcare appointment or a colleague feeling able to say that she needs support. Each creates room for someone’s experience to be heard.
World Menopause Day invites us to keep making that room. Sharing trustworthy information matters. So does listening without embarrassment or judgement.
Behind every campaign is a person trying to understand what she is experiencing. She deserves clear answers, compassionate care and the confidence to ask for both.
